VIDEO: Bipartisan Group of Midwest Governors Encourage Vaccines
LANSING, Mich. - Today, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz joined together to release a video on social media urging Midwesterners to get the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines.
"Everyone in the United States is now eligible to get the safe and effective vaccines, and we know it's a team effort to get everyone vaccinated," said Governor Whitmer. "We know that the virus doesn't care about state lines or political parties. It's on all of us to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect you, your family, and neighbors and get our nation back to normal. Summer celebrations are on the horizon, and we will beat COVID-19 together."
To date, Michigan has administered 6,820,926 vaccines, moving the state closer to its goal of equitably vaccinating at least 70% of Michiganders ages 16 and older as soon as possible. To date, 49.6% of Michiganders have received their initial dose of the vaccine, and 37.2% of Michiganders have received their completed dose. As part of these efforts, Michigan is working to administer 100,000 shots per day, partnering with organizations across the state to create more opportunities for Michigan residents to receive a vaccine.
