Governor Whitmer Makes Appointment to Alpena County Probate Court

LANSING, Mich. - Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of Alan M. Curtis to the Alpena County Probate Court.

"I am proud to appoint Alan to the bench in Alpena County," said Governor Whitmer. "His experience as both a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney will help him serve the community effectively. The people of Alpena County will benefit from his wealth of experience and credentials."

Alan M. Curtis currently serves as an attorney with White, Wojda and Curtis. In his practice, he specializes in criminal defense and insurance defense matters. Curtis previously worked as the deputy district attorney in Arapahoe County, Colorado and as a private practice attorney with Susan Fuller & Associates specializing in criminal defense and family law.

Curtis holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Anthropology from Western Michigan University and earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He is the vice president of Thunder Bay River Restoration. Alan lives in Alpena with his wife, Christine, and their son and two dogs.

"I want to thank Governor Whitmer for the honor and opportunity to serve the people of Alpena County as their Probate Judge," said Curtis. "Along with the honor, comes a great responsibility. A judge must be fair to all parties in all situations. In order to do so, you have to always listen and keep an open mind. Serving the people means treating each person with dignity and respect, while still representing and protecting the community at large."

This appointment was made to fill a partial term, which expires at twelve o'clock noon on January 1, 2023, after Judge Thomas J. LaCross stepped down effective October 31, 2021. If Mr. Curtis wishes to serve the remainder of Judge LaCross' term, expiring January 1, 2025, he would be required to run for reelection in November of 2022.

Alan Curtis
