Governor Whitmer Makes Appointment to the 52-3 District Court


LANSING, Mich. — Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced an appointment of Laura Polizzi to the 52-3 District Court for Oakland County. 


“I am proud to appoint Laura to the District Court in Oakland County,” said Governor Whitmer. “She brings a diverse range of experience and knowledge to the bench, and a strong commitment to serving as a role model for attorneys across Michigan. I am confident she will serve the people with distinction and uphold the rule of law.”

Laura E. Polizzi is a partner at Polizzi & Medley Law and litigates domestic, business, real estate, juvenile, and criminal matters. Laura has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Michigan Rising Star from 2018 through 2024. She serves on the board of directors for the Macomb County Bar Association and Macomb County Bar Foundation. Previously, she served as president of the Women’s Lawyers Association of Michigan, Macomb Region. Laura is also a representative in the State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly, and she is on the State Bar of Michigan Character and Fitness Committee.


Laura Polizzi is a resident of Rochester Hills where she and her husband raise their two children. She is bilingual and represents many Spanish speaking clients. Laura received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from Oakland University and her Juris Doctor from Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley Law School.


“I am truly honored to be appointed to the 52-3 District Court and thankful to the governor for this opportunity to serve the community that my family calls home,” said Laura Polizzi. “I am humbled by this opportunity, and I will work to ensure that all individuals are treated fairly, with respect, and equal access to justice.”


This appointment was made to fill a partial term following the resignation of Judge Julie A. Nicholson. Ms. Polizzi’s term will commence on May 26, 2024, and expire at twelve o’clock noon on January 1, 2025.
