ICYMI: Gov. Whitmer Criticizes Federal Amicus Brief in Line 5 Case
LANSING, Mich.—Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer released a video statement responding to filings by the U.S. and Canada in the Line 5 case. You can view the video below.
Key lines from the governor’s statement:
“These lakes provide drinking water for millions, power our economy, and define what it means to call Michigan home. The Great Lakes are Michigan’s greatest treasure.”
“Today the federal government joined hands with Enbridge, a large oil company, to argue that Michigan has no say in whether a pipeline runs through our waters. My response? Hell no.”
“The pipeline is a ticking time bomb. And in the past, Enbridge caused millions of gallons of crude oil to dump into the Kalamazoo River, creating the worst inland oil spill in U.S. history.”
“I’ll keep taking on big oil, special interests, and anyone who thinks Michigan shouldn’t have a voice. Because the Great Lakes belong to us, and I’ll never stop fighting to protect them for every Michigander and every generation that comes after us.”
