2019 Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year: Sklarczyk Seed Farm

WHEREAS, Michigan’s agricultural exports generate nearly $2 billion annually and support over 17,000 jobs both on the farm and off the farm in food processing, storage, and transportation; and,
WHEREAS, Sklarczyk Seed Farm located in Johannesburg, Michigan, is a third-generation farming and hydroponic seed potato greenhouse operation that was established in 1982 and began exporting in 2001; and,
WHEREAS, Sklarczyk Seed Farm exports seed potato tubers to Canada, Egypt, Chile, Thailand, Germany, and Brazil, making exports over 40% of their total sales; and,
WHEREAS, Sklarczyk Seed Farm has proven their ability to provide high quality seed potato tubers for their international customers around the globe, while also creating strong, ongoing business relationships; and,
WHEREAS, Sklarczyk Seed Farm exemplifies Michigan’s agricultural diversity and highlights the importance of food and agriculture exports to the state’s economy;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do proclaim Sklarczyk Seed Farm as the 2019 Michigan Agriculture Exporter of the Year and appreciate their continued commitment to Michigan’s vital food and agriculture industry.
