WHEREAS, approximately 54 percent of young Americans envision starting a business or have already done so; and,
WHEREAS, entrepreneurship is the building block to success in the workforce and in communities as it brings ideas, creativity, and innovation to life while driving economic growth on local, state, and national levels; and,
WHEREAS, entrepreneurship is vital to job creation and is an integral part of Michigan's continued innovation and growth; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, and as we work toward a better Michigan, we encourage youth and all citizens throughout the state to explore innovative ways in which entrepreneurship education can bring together the core academic, technical, and problem-solving skills essential for the success of our state's future entrepreneurs; and,
WHEREAS, the National Governors Association encourages connecting education to economic growth industries and recognizing that entrepreneurship and small business creation are the growth engines of any economy;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim, February 17 through February 23, 2019, as Entrepreneurship Week in Michigan.
