August 2019: Child Support Month

WHEREAS, child support strengthens families and invests in the future of our children, our communities, and our state; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Michigan child support program exists to encourage and facilitate means by which children receive the emotional and financial support they need from both parents; and,

 

WHEREAS, child support workers, employers, many state and county departments, hospitals, and community partners cooperate to ensure residents receive quality child support services; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Child Support continue its national leadership role in child support collections with $1.3 billion distributed in 2018; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to recognize the contributions of child support workers, employers, state and county departments, hospitals, and community partners; and,

 

WHEREAS, we thank the tireless efforts of these public servants, whose work supports many Michigan children, and dedicate August 2019 in recognition of their commitment to Michigan’s children and families;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 2019 as Child Support Month in Michigan and encourage people throughout the state to invest in the future of our children and thank those who work every day to support Michigan children.
