August 11 - August 17, 2019: American Wind Week

WHEREAS, Michigan hosts over 2,000 megawatts of wind power capacity, producing enough electricity to power over half a million average homes; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan is home to 26 wind-related manufacturing facilities and 26 wind farms; and,
WHEREAS, wind farms in Michigan have attracted over $3.7 billion dollars in private investment to date; and,
WHEREAS, wind farms generate $32.5 million in state and local taxes and between $5-$10 million in land lease payments each year for Michigan communities and landowners; and,
WHEREAS, wind powers opportunity for over 2,000 men and women in Michigan that are?directly employed by the wind industry;
THEREFORE,?I,?Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 11-17, 2019, as American Wind Week in the State of Michigan and encourage the residents of our state to learn about and celebrate wind energy.
