September 10, 2019: 70th Anniversary of Michigan's Hearing and Vision Screening Programs

WHEREAS, we are pleased to join the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in recognizing the efforts of local health departments for providing 70 years of hearing and vision screening programs in the state of Michigan; and,

 

WHEREAS, the commitment to provide over 1.1 million quality hearing and vision screenings each year by local health departments to preschool and school-age children helps those with hearing and vision difficulties receive care to prevent long-term effects; and,

 

WHEREAS, hearing and vision screening programs through local health departments continue to assist Michigan’s youth in their academic success by the identification and remediation of hearing and vision loss; and,

 

WHEREAS, hearing loss is the most common birth defect in the United States, and visual anomalies, when not identified and treated early, may result in permanent blindness; and,

 

WHEREAS, both local health departments and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have been a large contributor of the success of the hearing and vision programs throughout the state of Michigan; and,

 

WHEREAS, we are pleased to join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Hearing and Vision Programs, and the residents of Michigan in celebrating 70 years of providing hearing and vision screening programs to Michigan’s children;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 10, 2019, as the 70^th anniversary of the Hearing and Vision Programs in Michigan.
