September 13 - 22, 2019: Welcoming Week

WHEREAS, the success of our state depends on making sure all Michiganders feel welcome, regardless of their age, color, disability, height, genetic information, marital status, national origin, partisan considerations, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or weight; and,

 

WHEREAS, newcomers are a vital part of our communities, bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas, and contributing to the vibrant diversity we all value; and,

 

WHEREAS, by working together, we can achieve greater prosperity and make our state a place where people from around the world feel valued and want to put down roots; and,

 

WHEREAS, regardless of where we are born or what we look like, we are united in our efforts to build a stronger and more prosperous state that is inclusive for all who call Michigan their home; and,

 

WHEREAS, we reaffirm that Michigan stands as a beacon of freedom and opportunity, and we renew our commitment to our core American values; and,

 

WHEREAS, we honor the spirit of unity that brings neighbors together across our state by inviting all Michiganders to join with Welcoming Michigan and its partners during Welcoming Week;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 13-22, 2019, as Welcoming Week in Michigan.
