October 13 - 19, 2019: Health Care Safety and Security Week

WHEREAS, health care security and safety officers play an important and critical role in Michigan’s health profession; and,

 

WHEREAS, health care security and safety officers are tasked with protecting all those who work, visit, or receive treatment in a health care facility as the first responders to security and safety incidents; and,

 

WHEREAS, the professionalism of the health care and security and safety officers contribute to the diverse and evolving health care security needs of Michigan’s population; and,

 

WHEREAS, the demand for health care security and safety services is rising as a result of the increase in violence against health care professionals, expansion of criminal acts in the health care setting, surge in behavioral and mental health services, and the growth of the aging population utilizing health care facilities; and,

 

WHEREAS, professional health care security and safety operations and services are an important and necessary component in reference to providing a gold standard in safety and quality of care in health care;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 13-19, 2019, as Health Care Safety and Security Week in Michigan to recognize and honor the hundreds of health care security professionals for their dedication to making our hospitals and health care systems safe havens.
