February 08, 2020
WHEREAS, court reporters and captioners play a crucial role in the delivery of justice and in providing essential services to the citizens of our state and nation; and,
WHEREAS, court reporters are indispensable in the delivery of fair and impartial justice, as they are charged with creating an accurate verbatim record of court proceedings and deposition testimony for all civil litigants and criminal defendants in courtrooms across the nation; and,
WHEREAS, captioners are responsible for the closed captioning seen on television, at sporting events, and in other community and educational settings, bringing information to millions of deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing Americans every day; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 8-15, 2020, as Court Reporting and Captioning Week in Michigan.
