March 11, 2020: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day

WHEREAS, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are the food and nutrition experts who can translate the science of nutrition into practical solutions for healthy living; and,

 

WHEREAS, RDNs have earned a degree in nutrition, dietetics, public health or a related field from an accredited college or university; and,

 

WHEREAS, RDNs have completed coursework specific to the field and an accredited supervised practice program and passed a national certification examination; and,

 

WHEREAS, RDNs use their nutrition expertise to help individuals make positive lifestyle changes; and,

 

WHEREAS, good nutritional habits and a healthy lifestyle are the means to a favorable quality of life, and an RDN is a credentialed expert qualified to provide such information; and,

 

WHEREAS, RDNs work throughout the community in hospitals and healthcare facilities, schools, community and public health settings, food and nutrition industries, universities, research areas, and private practices; and,

 

WHEREAS, RDNs are advocates for advancing the nutritional status of the citizens of Michigan;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 11, 2020, as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day in Michigan.
