June 25, 2020: Public Transit Bus Driver Day

WHEREAS, thousands of Michigan residents rely on public transit bus drivers to get to work, school, shopping centers, and various appointments each and every day; and,
WHEREAS, public transit bus drivers serve within a variety of agencies, including urban, rural, and specialized services transportation systems; and,
WHEREAS, these hard-working individuals are well-trained professionals that must obtain a commercial driver’s license prior to their transportation service; and,
WHEREAS, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, these individuals have put their lives on the frontlines to provide safe, efficient, and dependable transportation to Michiganders; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we join with the Michigan Department of Transportation and its many community partners to celebrate the 44th Annual Michigan Small Bus Roadeo, and we recognize and thank Michigan’s public transit bus drivers for their exceptional commitment and dedication to serving the people of Michigan;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Thursday, June 25, 2020, as Public Transit Bus Driver Day in Michigan.
