May 3-7, 2021: Teacher Appreciation Week

 

WHEREAS, teachers mentor, guide, and inspire students so they can reach their full potential and grow into successful future leaders of our state and nation; and,

 

WHEREAS, teachers provide every child the opportunity to learn, grow, and excel so they can contribute to our society, economy, and communities in positive ways; and,
 

WHEREAS, along with parents, teachers are among the most influential and significant mentors and role models to countless students across our state who look to teachers for academic and personal growth; and,

 

WHEREAS, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers have shown unwavering dedication to their students, going above and beyond to ensure that students have the resources and support they need to learn and engage both on digital platforms and in classrooms; and,

 

WHEREAS, teachers have implemented various innovative solutions, including filming educational videos to engage students, using technology for virtual face-to-face learning, and even planning virtual field trips; and,

 

WHEREAS, many teachers have also supported students and their families by delivering learning supplies to those who don't have access, visiting individual students' homes when they could not participate online, and serving as a mentor for both students and parents during this challenging time; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this week, we should appreciate and recognize all teacher and public school employees in Michigan who shape the students of today into the leaders of tomorrow, inspire and welcome others to ascend into this honorable profession, and reaffirm our commitment to high-quality education that meets the needs of all students;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 3-7, 2021 as Teacher Appreciation Week in Michigan.
