May 6-12: Nurses Week

WHEREAS, we wish to honor the work of all dedicated Michigan nurses who are frontline providers of care across multiple settings and work as trusted advocates for patients and our communities; and,

 

WHEREAS, nurses across Michigan are marking observance of National Nurses Week, May 6-May 12, 2021; and,

 

WHEREAS, we recognize and honor the work of all nurses - those on the frontline and those in every setting - whose contributions have been made more visible through this challenging past year of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in particular those who have lost their lives to COVID-19; and,

 

WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses have played a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of Michiganders through providing high-quality and personalized care and support with other health care providers, while also preventing the spread of the virus; and,

 

WHEREAS, we owe gratitude to our nursing caregivers and special recognition to the many who work tirelessly to improve and maintain physical and mental health; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year is internationally recognized as "Year of the Nurse - 2021:  Excel, Lead, Innovate." We take this moment to ask all who live in Michigan to join nurses in celebrating this important week; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2021 as Nurses Week in Michigan.
