March 21 - 27, 2022: Environmental Health Week
March 21, 2022
WHEREAS, the environmental health profession is dedicated to the improvement of public health through management of the environment and preventative measures to safeguard public health; and,
WHEREAS, the environmental health profession contributes to the continued improvement and protection of the public's general welfare; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan's environmental health profession applies science-based expertise to reduce, eliminate, or prevent harm from environmental, chemical, and physical hazards in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and in the places we live with the goal of promoting health equity and reducing total health care costs; and,
WHEREAS, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, environmental health practitioners have continued to provide crucial environmental health services and protect the public from environmental hazards; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Michigan Environmental Health Association to encourage citizens throughout the state to learn more about the environmental health profession and to recognize its many contributions;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 21 – 27, 2022, as Environmental Health Week in Michigan.
