April 2-8, 2022: Week of the Young Child

WHEREAS, the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children (Michigan AEYC), in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is celebrating the Week of the Young Child on April 2-8, 2022; and,

 

WHEREAS, by calling attention to the need for high-quality early childhood services that embrace diversity and full inclusion for all children and families within Michigan, these organizations work to improve the quality and equitable access of such services; and,

 

WHEREAS, early childhood professionals have expertise to work with or on behalf of young children to make a difference throughout our communities, and their essential efforts deserve gratitude and recognition; and,

 

WHEREAS, public policies that support early learning and development are crucial to young children’s futures and to the prosperity of our society; and,

 

WHEREAS, expanding early childhood learning opportunities and improving early literacy achievements are two of the Top 10 goals of the state’s strategic education plan; and,

 

WHEREAS, social-emotional competence of young children and professionals is a key indicator to later school success, with professionals playing a crucial role to reducing stress and improving mental health and well-being; and,

 

WHEREAS, the future of our great state depends on the quality of life we provide to Michigan’s young children today;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2-8, 2022, as Week of the Young Child in Michigan.
