April and May 2022: Clean Up Months
April 08, 2022
WHEREAS, Michigan's lakes, streams, rolling farmland, and countless natural resources contribute to the quality of life and environment our state provides for its people; and,
WHEREAS, maintaining Michigan's natural beauty is no easy task, and we recognize the numerous groups, organizations, and volunteers who keep litter off of our streets and out of our waters, plant trees and flowers, renovate and paint buildings, and contribute to the overall enrichment of our state; and,
WHEREAS, recycling is another way to help protect our environment, and I, along with state legislators and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, aim to double Michigan's recycling rate to 30 percent by 2025 and ultimately reach 45 percent annually; and,
WHEREAS, from picking up litter off of the sidewalks to recycling, it is important for everyone to play an active role in protecting and preserving our great state for generations to come; and,
WHEREAS, during the months of April and May, we join with Keep Michigan Beautiful, Inc. to encourage residents to participate in personal or community projects to clean up and maintain the beauty of our Great Lakes state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April and May 2022 as Michigan Clean Up Months.
