April 29 - May 1, 2022: Global Youth Service Days
April 29, 2022
WHEREAS, Global Youth Service Days are annual days of action that celebrate and mobilize children and teens to improve their communities each day of the year through community service and service-learning; and,
WHEREAS, Global Youth Service Days, the largest service event in the world, is being observed in all 50 states and more than 100 countries; and,
WHEREAS, community service and service-learning provide opportunities for young people in our state to apply their knowledge, skills, creativity, abilities and unique perspectives to improve Michigan communities, and become active citizens and community leaders; and,
WHEREAS, community service and service-learning are proven to increase academic achievement, increase workforce readiness, and build social and emotional skills; and,
WHEREAS, Global Youth Service Days provide an opportunity for schools, community organizations, faith-based organizations, government agencies, businesses, and families to engage youth as leaders and problem-solvers in their communities; and,
WHEREAS, young people across the state will be engaged in service to their communities on Global Youth Service Days;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 29-May 1, 2022, as Global Youth Service Days in Michigan.
