May 4, 2022: Firefighters' Day

WHEREAS, International Firefighters’ Day is observed every year on May 4th to honor firefighters who have dedicated their lives to the protection of life and property; and,
WHEREAS, we must recognize the selfless years working in a profession that risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life and the physical and mental tolls a firefighter accepts; and,
WHEREAS, we thank current firefighters for their dedication to protecting the public; and,
WHEREAS, we should also remember past firefighters who have died in the line of duty serving their communities and protecting the safety of us all; and,
WHEREAS, during this day, we should recognize and show gratitude to firefighters in Michigan for their bravery and sacrifice in protecting our homes, properties, and the lives of those we love;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 4, 2022 as Firefighters’ Day in Michigan.
