August 2022: Child Support Month

WHEREAS, child support strengthens families and invests in the future of our children, our communities, and our state; and,

WHEREAS, the Michigan Child Support Program exists to encourage and facilitate the means by which children receive the emotional and financial support they need from both parents; and,

WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Child Support continues its national leadership role in child support collections with $1.23 billion distributed to families in 2021; and,

WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to recognize the contributions of child support workers, employers, local prosecutors’ offices and court staff, hospitals, and community partners for their work on ensuring the well-being of children and families; and, 

WHEREAS, we thank the tireless efforts of these public servants, whose work supports 828,327 Michigan children, and dedicate August 2022 in recognition of their commitment to Michigan’s children and families;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 2022 as Child Support Month in Michigan and encourage people throughout the state to invest in the future of our children and thank those who work every day to support Michigan children.
