September 30, 2022: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Awareness Day
September 30, 2022
WHEREAS, in 2020, 7,960 Michigan infants were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at birth; and,
WHEREAS, families impacted by a NICU admission may find it difficult to find resources, support, and education; and,
WHEREAS, funding for research related to greater understanding and prevention of conditions that lead to a NICU admission is vital; and,
WHEREAS, providing holistic care of families impacted by a NICU admission is essential to quality of care; and,
WHEREAS, NICU Awareness Day provides an opportunity for families whose lives have been affected by a NICU admission to share their story, to honor dedicated health care professionals, and meet families with similar stories; and,
WHEREAS, the establishment of NICU Awareness Day will also provide visibility for advocacy and increased research to improve the experiences of families affected by a NICU admission;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 30, 2022, as Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Awareness Day in Michigan.
