February 2023: Community Support Month

WHEREAS, the Lowell United Methodist Church, in partnership with other Methodist and local churches, organizations, and individuals, has established the Community Support Month Project to show gratitude and appreciation to persons working to provide critical services to the West Michigan community; and,
WHEREAS, each week in February, Community Support Month identifies and recognizes persons serving in a specific occupational area to show community appreciation; and,
WHEREAS, Community Support Month has grown significantly since its inception in January of 2022, when over 1000 people were been blessed with expressions of gratitude ranging from gift bags and cards to meals or other acts of kindness; and,
WHEREAS, members of the community from all different backgrounds and political views have been able to come together to show their love and appreciation for others serving the community, and intend to do so again in 2023; and,
WHEREAS, the persons who work tirelessly on behalf of the community to be honored in 2023 are: Week 1, February 5, Healthcare Workers; Week 2, February 12, First Responders (police, fire, and EMS); Week 3, February 19, Educators; and Week 4, February 26, Service Workers (wait staff, clerks, bank workers, mechanics, etc.);
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 2023 as Community Support Month in Michigan.
