March 2023: Nutrition Month

WHEREAS, food is the substance by which life is sustained; and,

WHEREAS, the type, quality, and amount of food that individuals consume each day plays a vital role in their overall health and physical fitness; and,

WHEREAS, there is a need for continuing nutrition education and a wide-scale effort to enhance healthy eating practices; and,

WHEREAS, during this month we join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Division, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as many local and regional dietetic associations, to raise awareness and support for the important role nutrition plays in our daily lives.

WHEREAS, this year’s theme ‘Fuel for the Future’ highlights the importance of fueling bodies at every age; eating with sustainability in mind; and showcases the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetics technicians, registered;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 2023 as Nutrition Month in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to be proactive about their nutrition and mindful of the nutrition of others in the hope of achieving a healthier Michigan.
