WHEREAS, The Michigan Small Business Development Center’s mission is to help Michigan small businesses succeed, and its vision is to have Michigan recognized as the best place to start and grow a businesses; and,
WHEREAS, the MI-SBDC provides expert, no-cost consulting through the full small business life cycle: start, scale or sell, all while maintaining the strictest confidence; and,
WHEREAS, the MI-SBDC’s business consultants, including its Growth and Tech Teams, offer a wide variety of assistance, including one-on-one consulting, business education & training, business plan development, accessing capital, cybersecurity, exit planning, export assistance, financial analysis, market research, growth & strategic planning, and tech commercialization; and,
WHEREAS, the MI-SBDC in 2022 exceeded all performance metrics, including $409.6M in capital formation, 517 new business starts, 2,247 jobs created, 25,719 jobs supported, 8,509 total clients served, 34% businesses of color, 50% women-owned businesses, 40,127 hours of consulting, 903 market research & SEO reports completed, 227 webinars hosted and 3,383 webinars attended; and,
WHEREAS, the MI-SBDC is funded by the Small Business Administration and the MEDC, plus 10 regional locations and host institutions, including Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University (statewide host), Kettering University, Lansing Community College, Michigan Technological University, Mid Michigan College, Saginaw Valley State University Carmona College of Business, Washtenaw Community College, and Western Michigan University Haworth College of Business; and,
WHEREAS, SBDC Day is a national, collective proclamation of the impact of America’s SBDCs on the success of our nation’s dreamers, innovators, and doers – America’s small businesses, on this, its seventh annual SBDC day; and,
WHEREAS, we should support small businesses and entrepreneurs and celebrate their resiliency and contributions to our state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 15, 2023, as Small Business Development Center Day in Michigan.
