April and May 2023: Clean Up Months
April 01, 2023
WHEREAS, Michigan's lakes, streams, farmland, and other natural resources improve our quality of life; and,
WHEREAS, maintaining Michigan's natural beauty is no easy task, and we recognize the groups, organizations, and volunteers who keep litter off our streets and out of our waters, plant trees and flowers, renovate and paint buildings, and enrich our state; and,
WHEREAS, recycling is another way to help protect our environment, and the State of Michigan, led by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, aims to double our recycling rate to 30 percent by 2025 and ultimately reach 45 percent annually; and,
WHEREAS, everyone can play an active role in protecting and preserving our great state for generations in a variety of ways, from picking up litter off sidewalks to recycling their own cans and bottles; and,
WHEREAS, during the months of April and May, we join with Keep Michigan Beautiful, Inc. to encourage Michiganders to participate in personal or community projects to clean up and maintain the beauty of our Great Lakes State;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April and May 2023 as Clean Up Months in Michigan.
