WHEREAS, International Firefighters’ Day is observed every year on May 4th to honor firefighters who dedicate their lives to keeping us and our homes safe; and,
WHEREAS, firefighters devote their professional lives in service to a career that takes a physical and mental toll, often putting their lives at risk, in order to protect their communities; and,
WHEREAS, we thank firefighters on the job today for their dedication to protecting the public; and,
WHEREAS, we remember past firefighters and those who died in the line of duty serving their communities; and,
WHEREAS, we recognize and show gratitude to all Michigan firefighters for their bravery and sacrifice in protecting our homes, properties, our lives, and the lives of those we love; and,
WHEREAS, on this day to show our gratitude, I encourage Michiganders to make sure they have working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in their homes;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 4, 2023, as Firefighters’ Day in Michigan.
