June 4, 2023: Cancer Survivors Day

WHEREAS, a “cancer survivor” is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life; and,
WHEREAS, there are more than 18 million cancer survivors in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, since the number of cancer survivors is projected to increase to 22.4 million by 2032, it is important to increase access to effective treatments, quality survivorship care, and necessary psychological resources – especially among historically marginalized and medically underserved people; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Michigan has a valuable, dynamic cancer survivor population; and,
WHEREAS, hundreds of communities across the globe will be celebrating survivors on Sunday, June 4th; and,
WHEREAS, our state salutes all cancer survivors and those who support them;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 4, 2023, as Cancer Survivors’ Day in Michigan.
