September 2023: Michigan Mobility Month

WHEREAS, the State of Michigan ranks number 1 for mobility and electrification research and development spending – creating a safer, more sustainable future for all; and,
WHEREAS, through the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, Michigan is building effective public private partnerships to expand our ongoing collaborations with automotive industry partners to develop smart infrastructure and strengthen economic competitiveness in attracting and developing next-generation talent; and,
WHEREAS, we are leading national mobility policy conversations through both the Council on Future Mobility and Electrification as well as through the creation of the first five-state compact in the Midwest to focus on electric vehicle adoption; and,
WHEREAS, the number of mobility-focused businesses and multi-billion-dollar investments from world-leading companies in electric vehicles, chips, and batteries is rapidly increasing, with the state of Michigan securing billions of dollars in EV investments; and,
WHEREAS, through the MI Healthy Climate Plan, Michigan is carving a path to carbon neutrality by 2050, which includes implementing a worry-free, statewide electric vehicle charging network before 2030; and,
WHEREAS, cities throughout the state including Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Houghton, Detroit, and beyond are supporting innovation through unique partnerships and projects; and,
WHEREAS, over a century ago Michigan put the world on wheels and today, the state continues to revolutionize the way we move by land, air, and sea and,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 2023 as Michigan Mobility Month in Michigan.
