WHEREAS, the state of Michigan is pleased to join Albanian-Americans throughout Michigan in recognizing November 28, 2023, as Albanian Independence Day; and,
WHEREAS, on November 28, 1912, Albanian hero, Ismail Qemali gathered delegates in Vlora, Albania to approve the Declaration of Independence, and Albania restored its status as an independent country, free of foreign invasion; and,
WHEREAS, this year, the state of Michigan is proud to celebrate the 111th independence anniversary of Albania; and,
WHEREAS, still today, Michigan’s Albanian-American citizens continue to bring their rich culture and tradition to our state, as Albanian-Americans flourish in every Michigan community they reside in, as helpful and contributing members of their communities, successful small business owners, and distinguished professionals in their respective fields;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan do hereby proclaim November 28, 2023, as Albanian Independence Day in Michigan.
