March 2024: Nutrition Month

WHEREAS, the type, quality, and amount of food that individuals consume each day plays a vital role in their overall health and physical fitness; and,
WHEREAS, there is a need for continuing nutrition education and a wide-scale effort to enhance healthy eating practices; and,
WHEREAS, during this month we join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Division, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as many local and regional dietetic associations, to raise awareness and support for the important role nutrition plays in our daily lives; and,
WHEREAS, this year’s theme, ‘Beyond the Table’ highlights the farm-to-fork aspect of nutrition, tying in with Michigan’s strong agricultural and farming heritage. The theme also addresses the various ways and places we eat, both at home and on the go; and,
WHEREAS, this year’s theme emphasizes sustainability efforts; and showcases the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists and nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 2024 as Nutrition Month in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to be proactive about their nutrition and mindful of the nutrition of others in the hope of achieving a healthier Michigan.
