WHEREAS, Medicaid is the largest health insurance program in the U.S.; and,
WHEREAS, in FY22 Michigan’s Medicaid program afforded health coverage to more than 3 million Michiganders each month, including more than 1 million adults in the Healthy Michigan Plan, and more than 1 million children; and,
WHEREAS, Medicaid provides a full range of health care services to adults and children with a lower income; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan’s Medicaid program provides comprehensive health care coverage including medical visits, hospital stays, prescription medications, preventive care, mental health services, and dental care; and,
WHEREAS, premiums have been eliminated for Healthy Michigan Plan and MI Child Medicaid plans; and,
WHEREAS, Medicaid ensures that Michigan residents have access to quality, affordable care without financial barriers whether they need a routine check-up or are facing a health challenge; and,
WHEREAS, Michiganders are encouraged to apply for Medicaid if they believe they are eligible, or to submit renewal paper annually to ensure they have access to needed comprehensive health care coverage;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2024 as Medicaid Awareness Month in Michigan.
