August 2024: Child Support Month

WHEREAS, child support strengthens families and invests in the future of our children, our communities, and our state; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Child Support Program exists to encourage and facilitate means by which children receive the emotional and financial support they need from both parents; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Child Support continues its national leadership role in child support collections with $1.04 billion distributed to families in 2023; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to recognize the contributions of child support workers, employers, local prosecutor’s offices and court staff, hospitals, and community partners to the well-being of children and families; and,
WHEREAS, we thank the tireless efforts of these public servants, whose work supports 819,323 Michigan children, and recognize their commitment to Michigan's children and families; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan will be welcoming child support professionals from across the globe to the 2024 National Child Support Engagement Association Leadership Symposium in Detroit, August 4 – 7, 2024;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 2024 as Child Support Month in Michigan and encourage people throughout the state to invest in the future of our children and thank those who work every day to support Michigan children.
