WHEREAS, therapy dogs improve the quality of life for people in a variety of different ways by bringing comfort and support in times of need; and,
WHEREAS, Therapy Dog Appreciation Week raises awareness about the positive impact of a therapy dog, and helps spread information about how vital their services can be for those in need; and,
WHEREAS, therapy dogs interact with a variety of people in our community facing challenges including patients in nursing homes, hospitals, and children facing crisis situations, and those who have suffered from domestic violence and sexual assault; and,
WHEREAS, therapy dogs can provide comfort to individuals during difficult times such as the loss of a loved one at the funeral home, and even during a trip to the dentist; and,
WHEREAS, we celebrate therapy dogs and the important role that they play as they bring healing and comfort to their human companions; and,
WHEREAS, we celebrate therapy dogs this week alongside Sit Means Sit Metro Detroit, Redefined K9, and the International Association of Canine Professionals;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, hereby proclaim August 25-31, 2024, as Therapy Dog Appreciation Week in Michigan.
