October 21-25, 2024: Celebrate Babies Week

WHEREAS, over 100,000 babies are born every year in Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, early healthy relationships are the foundation for babies, toddlers, and young children’s psychological, emotional, developmental, and physical well-being; each baby, toddler, and young child needs to be nurtured and protected by one or more consistent caregivers; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan is dedicated to increasing the awareness of the importance of relationships, mental health, and social and emotional development in the early years of life and to celebrating the critical families and caregivers who raise Michigan's children; and,

WHEREAS, we must work together as a community to increase awareness and public understanding of the critical importance of healthy relationships between infants, toddlers, parents, and early childhood caregivers; and,

WHEREAS, data shows the need to address disparities and ensure equitable access to services and programs that support infants, toddlers, young children, and their families; and,

WHEREAS, the state is committed to improving opportunities and outcomes for infants, toddlers, young children, and their families through strategic investments, continued collaboration, and strategic partnerships; and,

WHEREAS, one week each year is dedicated to officially celebrate infants, toddlers, young children, their families, and early childhood professionals; and,

WHEREAS, through public awareness campaigns, intentional community outreach, networking, and social action, babies, their families, and those that support them are celebrated; and,

WHEREAS, Think Babies Michigan, a statewide coalition of thousands of early childhood service providers, researchers, advocates, and families are working together to make Michigan a top state in which to have and raise a baby;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 21-25, 2024, as Celebrate Babies Week in Michigan.
