November 18-24, 2024: Global Entrepreneurship Week

WHEREAS, Global Entrepreneurship Week recognizes the importance of entrepreneurship to Michigan’s Economy and celebrates the entrepreneurs who serve and contribute to the vibrancy of their communities; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan has a storied history of innovative thinking paired with a hard work ethic – from putting the world on wheels over a century ago to manufacturing life-saving vaccines, Michigan keeps the world moving forward; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan’s excellent educational system incorporates several entrepreneurial programs, research groups, and innovation hubs, working together to foster the next generation of entrepreneurial talent in the state; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan is home to 20 SmartZones, strategically located throughout the state where technology-based firms, entrepreneurs, and researchers are in close proximity to all of the community assets that support their endeavors; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan’s robust entrepreneurial ecosystem continues to grow and thrive; with our efforts focused on providing resources and support to those looking to establish new businesses, and to build a state where innovations, energy, and talent live; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan is home to five resident unicorn companies and has been recognized as the fastest growing state for Venture Capital investment; and for every dollar invested in a Michigan startup by a Michigan-based VC firm, $42.87 of investment is attracted from outside of Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, my goal is for Michigan to be the place where the best minds and the biggest private sector players come together to build the future;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 18-24, 2024 as Global Entrepreneurship Week in Michigan.
