September 2025: Public Safety Communications

WHEREAS, statewide interoperable public safety communications systems are the foundation for efficient, effective and reliable delivery of public safety services and emergency response for Michigan communities every day; and,
WHEREAS, adherence to technical, operational, and fiscal responsibility standards within the Office of Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) promotes government transparency, statewide interoperability, and responsible use of critical infrastructure and resources; and,
WHEREAS, a single statewide secure and reliable emergency communication system helps expediate emergency service delivery to communities, removes barriers in critical information sharing protecting public safety and citizens through standardized, resilient, and mission-critical platforms; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we encourage all Michigan government agencies and public safety partners entrusted to deliver services and protect communities to review their communications plans and capabilities and continue to leverage the State’s reliable interoperable communications system and compliance with technological local, state, federal and tribal public safety standards;
WHEREAS, this month, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Office of Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) and the vital service it provides to Michiganders;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 2025 as Public Safety Communications Month in Michigan.
