October 2025: Apple Month

WHEREAS, Apples are the largest and most valuable fruit crop in Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, the tradition of apple growing is intrinsic to the culture of Michigan in autumn; and,

WHEREAS, Michiganders can enjoy dozens of fresh apple varieties available in grocery stores, supermarkets, farm markets, cider mills and U-picks; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan’s apple growers harvested an estimated 1.28 billion pounds of apples in 2024; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan’s 850 Apple growers are dedicated to producing safe, quality fruit for consumers to enjoy; and,

WHEREAS, eating Michigan apples regularly may contribute to good health and reduce the risk of diseases; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan has over 17.6 million apple trees in commercial production, covering 38,000 acres.

WHEREAS, Michigan is the second-largest apple producing state in the nation; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 2025, Apple Month in Michigan and encourage residents to celebrate the apple industry by enjoying Pure Michigan apples.
