October 12-18, 2025: Healthcare Security and Safety Week

WHEREAS, healthcare security and safety employees play an important role in Michigan’s healthcare industry; and,
WHEREAS, healthcare security and safety employees across the state have a critical responsibility to uphold the highest level of quality and service in their practice to ensure the delivery of superior protection to healthcare facilities, personnel, patients, visitors and community; and,
WHEREAS, the professionalism, courage and resilience of healthcare security and safety employees contribute to the diverse and evolving healthcare security needs of Michigan’s population; and,
WHEREAS, the demand for healthcare security and safety services is rising as a result of the increase in violence against healthcare professionals, expanding criminal acts in the healthcare setting, and the growth of the aging population utilizing healthcare facilities; and,
WHEREAS, healthcare security and safety professionals, while leading with excellence and protecting with care, display strong commitment, diligence, and attention in their practice, while providing physical security, critical support during natural disasters and other crises, and creating a safe and secure environment, are vital in the safety and quality of care in healthcare;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 12 – 18, 2025, as Healthcare Security and Safety Week in Michigan.
