April 28, 2026: Workers Memorial Day

WHEREAS, every year on April 28th, communities and worksites around the world honor friends, family members, and colleagues who have been killed or injured on the job; and,

WHEREAS, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated that there were 5,070 fatal work injuries recorded in the nation in 2024; and,

WHEREAS, in Michigan, there were 152 workplace fatalities in 2024; and,

WHEREAS, we must honor the memory of Michiganders who have been injured, disabled, or died as a result of workplace accidents; and,

WHEREAS, we honor the contributions of Michigan’s workforce and call for increased workplace safety as we continue building up our infrastructure and growing our economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 28, 2026, as Worker’s Memorial Day in Michigan.
