June 2026: Local Government Visibility Month

WHEREAS,local government is the form of government closest to the people, providing essential services and shaping the future of Michigan’s unique communities; and,
WHEREAS,the strength of our state depends on the active participation and informed engagement of residents in township, city, and county decision-making processes; and,
WHEREAS, increasing the visibility of local government fosters greater transparency, accountability, and public trust between elected officials and the constituents they serve; and,
WHEREAS, citizens are encouraged to attend public meetings, review local ordinances, and collaborate with their neighbors to preserve the character and well-being of their communities; and,
WHEREAS, by dedicating a month to local government visibility, we recognize the tireless work of local clerks, board members, and commissioners who strive to represent the will of the people;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 2026 as Local Government Visibility Month.
