August 2026: Child Support Month

WHEREAS, child support strengthens families and invests in the future of our children, our communities, and our state; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Child Support Program exists to promote and facilitate the
emotional and financial support children need from both parents; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Office of Child Support is a national leader in child support collections with more than $1.03 billion distributed to families in 2025; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the MDHHS to recognize the vital contributions of child support workers, employers, local prosecutor’s offices, court staff, hospitals, and community partners to the well-being of children and families; and,
WHEREAS, we extend our gratitude to these dedicated public servants, whose tireless efforts support more than 782,000 Michigan children and their families, and applaud their ongoing commitment to Michigan’s future;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 2026 as Child Support Month and encourage residents across the state to show appreciation for those who work every day to support Michigan children and their families.
