WHEREAS, the State of Michigan is home to a vibrant and diverse population, strengthened by the many cultures, traditions, and histories represented by its residents; and,
WHEREAS, Turkish Americans have made meaningful contributions to the cultural, social, educational, economic, and civic life of Michigan and communities across the state; and,
WHEREAS, Türkiye’s rich heritage reflects thousands of years of history, art, music, cuisine, hospitality, and cultural traditions that continue to bring people together across communities; and,
WHEREAS, the Turkish Festival, taking place on August 1–2, 2026, serves as a cultural festival and convention celebrating Turkish heritage, strengthening friendship, and promoting understanding among people of all backgrounds; and,
WHEREAS, the festival provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience Turkish culture through traditional food, music, dance, art, family activities, and community engagement; and,
WHEREAS, recognizing August as Turkish Heritage Month honors the contributions of Turkish Americans and celebrates the spirit of unity, diversity, and cultural exchange that enriches Michigan and communities across the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the month of August 2026 as Turkish Heritage Month.
