WHEREAS, the youth of Michigan represent the future of our communities, and investing in their confidence, resilience, leadership, and well-being strengthens our state’s future; and,
WHEREAS, young people today face unprecedented challenges, including social pressures, bullying, negative self-image, and increasing mental health concerns that can impact their confidence and ability to reach their full potential; and,
WHEREAS, fostering self-confidence, resilience, kindness, and leadership empowers young people to overcome adversity, advocate for themselves and others, and become engaged citizens who positively impact their communities; and,
WHEREAS, the Igniting Your SPARK: Reclaiming Confidence in Today’s Youth initiative was founded to inspire youth to recognize their unique strengths, embrace their individuality, and develop the confidence necessary to pursue their goals and dreams through education, mentorship, community engagement, and positive encouragement; and,
WHEREAS, This initiative encourages schools, families, community organizations, businesses, and local leaders to work together in creating environments where every young person feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed; and,
WHEREAS, October 11 is recognized internationally as the International Day of the Girl, providing an opportunity to celebrate the limitless potential of young people while encouraging confidence, leadership, resilience, and equal opportunity for all youth;
NOW, THEREFORE, That, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of the state of Michigan, and Garlin Gilchrist II, lieutenant governor of Michigan, do hereby recognize October 11 as “Igniting Your SPARK Day” and I encourage all residents, schools, organizations, and communities throughout the State of Michigan to observe this day by day promoting confidence, resilience, leadership, kindness, and the belief that every young person possesses a unique spark capable of creating meaningful change.
