WHEREAS, Michigan is home to more freshwater shoreline and public golf courses than any other state, Michigan's hotels, resorts, and meeting event venues offer a variety of services and beautiful landscapes for corporate, association, and social events or meetings; and,
WHEREAS, nearly 100 Michigan hotels, resorts, and other venues have been accredited by the Green Lodging Michigan program, making them leaders in energy conservation, air quality, and reduced water consumption and waste; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan has a rich heritage of hospitality leadership within the state's numerous hotels, resorts, and meeting venues that provide residents, students, as well as national and international visitors new and exciting learning opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we encourage residents and visitors of Michigan to learn more about the opportunities within the state's meetings, events, and hospitality industries. We honor those who serve in these critically important industries since their efforts contribute to Michigan's continued economic growth and success;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 7, 2024, as Michigan Event Industry Day in Michigan.
