Tutorials, Webinars, and Seminars

We are committed to serving members and employees today and preparing them for tomorrow. With this in mind, we are now offering the following opportunities to learn about your pension plan.

Qualifying for Your Pension

Calculating Your Pension

The Equated Plan

Our Webinars offer the same information as our tutorials in a more interactive environment. You will need access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection to participate.

We will be offering two different kinds of webinars to match your knowledge and level of confidence. See the listing below for a description of what's available.

Pension Planning Webinar  

Running time: Approximately 2 hours

If you need a high-level overview of the entire pension plan, register for a Pension Planning Webinar. This webinar lasts about two hours and is an opportunity for you to gather general information about the pension plan. Changes brought about by the recent pension reform and incentive legislation will also be included in this general presentation. Topics of discussion include:

  • Earning and purchasing service credit
  • Eligibility requirements
  • Calculating retirement benefits
  • Incentive and Reform Explanations
  • Insurance coverage
  • Questions and answers

Registration is required.



Seminars

We offer onsite seminars at various locations during the school year.

Note: If you can't wait for a scheduled onsite seminar we recommend you take advantage of our tutorials or webinars which offer the same information. Tutorials are available 24 hours a day on demand. Webinars offer a more interactive environment. Click on the corresponding tabs above to access tutorials or webinars.

Click on a region of the Michigan map to see a list of seminars in your area. If the meeting is available, you will see a registration link in the left column. Preregistration is required to assure we have enough seats and materials. The topic for the meeting is listed below the location.

Preretirement Information Meetings

If you are within four years from retirement, you may want to attend a Preretirement Information Meeting (PRIM).

A PRIM lasts about two-hours and is an opportunity for you to learn more about your retirement plan so you can make informed decisions about your future. Topics include:

  • Earning and purchasing service credit

  • Eligibility requirements

  • Calculating retirement benefits

  • Insurance coverage

  • Questions and answers

Leaving Public School Employment

What happens if you leave school employment before you're eligible to retire? This one hour meeting will help you understand what your choices are. We'll discuss what to do before and after you leave, refunds, service credit, and what issues to consider.

Paying For Service Credit Purchases

In this one hour meeting, you will learn how you earn service credit, the types of service credit you can purchase, and how to pay for it. We'll discuss how service credit can enhance your monthly pension. We'll also discuss the how a purchase can affect the insurance premium subsidy.

 

Note: If the facility is closed due to inclement weather or for any other reason, the meeting is canceled.
