Since Public Act 10 of 1955 established the Michigan Historical Marker Program, more than 1,800 historical markers have been placed across the state - and in several other states and Europe.
Each marker tells a story about the people, places and events that reveal the breadth of Michigan's heritage. Each one demonstrates a community's commitment to its history and serves as a signpost of historical significance. A marker dedication ceremony is an event of commemoration that introduces a lasting resource for tourism, education and community heritage. PLEASE NOTE: The center has established two annual application deadlines for the marker review process. The deadlines are April 15 and September 15 each year. For more deadline information, visit our "How to Apply" page.
