Public Act 552 of 2018 (PA 552) requires licensed law enforcement officers, tribal law enforcement officers, fire arson investigators, and qualifying private college security officers to complete active violence response training. Individuals who are not currently compliant with PA 552 requirements must complete Commission-approved PA 552 training in 2026 as part of the Commission-designated Tactical Operations CPE hours.
Officers who graduated from an MCOLES Basic Police Training Academy session that began after May 3, 2019, or completed the Recognition of Prior Basic Training and Experience (RPTE) program after April 2024 and became licensed in Michigan, already satisfy the PA 552 requirement. Agencies are encouraged to have their MITN operator verify an individual’s PA 552 training status prior to contacting the Commission.
If an officer is unable to complete the required training within the designated compliance period, an extension request must be submitted by the employing agency.
