The Commission is now accepting applications for recruits who began an academy on or after October 1, 2026. Limited, competitive grant funds are available.
The Commission administers the Michigan Justice Training Fund (MJTF), as established under Public Act 302 of 1982, to support in-service training for criminal justice personnel statewide. The fund is supported by the Michigan Justice System Fund (MJSF) and receives the first $10 from civil infraction fines, along with 11.84% of the remaining MJSF revenue. The Michigan Justice Training Act requires the Commission to disburse 60% of the funds received to agencies for licensed officer training on a per-capita, full-time equivalent (FTE) basis. This disbursement is referred to as the Law Enforcement Distribution (LED) and occurs in the Spring and Fall of each year. The Act requires the remaining 40% of the funds to be used for a competitive grant program, open to law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and criminal defense attorneys, as well as for administrative costs.
